The SAT is offered in the United States and in may international locations. It is administered up to 7 times a year: January, March/April, May, June, October, November, and December.
Myths abound about when you can take the exam and how often you can take it. Here is the skinny:
Anyone can take any SAT that is administered, regardless of whether your school has chosen to "host" it. Schools get paid to host the test, so they may try to steer you into taking the test when it is best for them. You need to do what works best for you, so take the test when it is most suitable for you, even if if means that you have to travel to a different school to do so. Keep in mind that you may also need to take and study for SAT Subject Tests, AP exams, midterms, finals, etc., so be sure to plan your SAT test dates carefully.
Most often students take the SAT in the spring of the junior year (March, April, or May) and then again in the fall (October or November) of the senior year.
